I’m not sure how the date 1723 came into it. The correct date was 1775. I have edited the article to correct the date.

We all must continually keep learning, the bible and other sources will help us understand our destinies. I do understand that not everyone shares my beliefs, but from a purely personal standpoint, I cannot imagine how I would make it through from day to day, without knowing and believing in God.

Did you actually read An Essay On Psalmody or did you just parrot what has already been falsely stated on the web. No place in the essay is Issac Watts mentioned nor any of the songs that you state. He was a Puritan arguing for the use of Psalms in congregational singing.

Whoever is spreading this misquote across the web has one agenda and that is to justify the use of their own desire for the offering of worship instead of finding out God’s desire for the offering of Music.

It is a common problem among churches today.

Have you read “An Essay on Psalmody” by William Romaine? This quote is not in his essay. It doesn’t even reflect his style of writing. He does mention Isaac Watts and is against the singing of man-written hymns in public worship. He believed in the singing of the Psalms exclusively in public worship.

I am not saying this quote wasn’t written by someone, but it didn’t come from William Romain in this particular Essay. Here is the link to his full essay. Quite an interesting read.
